Killing Floor update – 30 Sep 2009
by [TW]Wilsonam on Sep.30, 2009, under News
We have just released a small update for Killing floor, following the Beta testing.
The details:
- Fixed surround sound crash with Audigy cards and Vista (this enables users with Audigy cards, Vista, and the proper drivers to now have surround sound)
- Added Universal Plug and Play(UPnP) support for hosting Listen Servers. The game will now attempt to open the proper ports on your router when you host a Listen server, thus making matchmaking easier. Please note, UPNP must be enabled on your router.
- Improved Map White Listing system to get maps onto the list faster
- Fixed exploits on each official map
As always, this should update automatically through Steam. If you are unsure, just exit Steam and restart it!
Server admins please note – you’ll need to update through HLDS for this one.
Open Beta Program for Killing Floor
by [TW]schneidzekk on Sep.23, 2009, under News
We are offering all KF players and server admins the chance to join an Open Beta Program for future changes to the game.
The first features to be tested include Surround Sound support for Vista and Universal Plug’n'Play Support for Hosting Servers, as well as a new map white-listing system that will allow us to update the white list far quicker than before.
The Beta Program is now available to all. To take part, individual players can chose to opt in to the Beta by changing the Beta Participation option in your Steam Settings. Server admins can opt-in to the Beta by running the hldsupdatetool with the following command line addition: -beta kfwebwhitelist. Please remember that this IS a Beta program and that you will only be able to play with players/on servers that have opted in to the Beta. You can always opt back out of the Beta at any time and restore the original version of KF.
Killing Floor Shipping to Stores in North America
by [TW]schneidzekk on Sep.15, 2009, under News
Tripwire Interactive are happy to announce that Killing Floor, the hit co-op zombie shooter, is shipping to retailers across North America. After tearing up the sales charts on Steam® for the past couple of months, the boxed version of the game will be on shelves this week. As a special extra the retail version of the game includes 2 bonus playable characters.
With London and the surrounding countryside overrun by failed biological experiments called specimens, it is up to you and 5 of your friends to clear the area of the infestation. Featuring an expansive arsenal of weapons and a built-in perk system that lets you customize and level-up your character you’ll certainly have the firepower to get the job done. Also included in the box is the recently released free “Heavy Metal” Content Pack – the first of many free content packs planned for the game which includes an all new map and new weapons. And with Wave 1 of the “Grindhouse Custom Map Making Competition” just completed and over 50 maps submitted there is no shortage of awesome community created content to play with. The next phase of the contest ends 2nd October and will generate even more stunning new maps for the community, completely for free!
Winners of Wave 1 Grindhouse Custom Map Contest
by [TW]Wilsonam on Sep.14, 2009, under News
With over 50 entries for the contest, we have been really impressed with the quality of many of the submissions. The best of the best was judged to be Damien Laurent’s “KF-Waterworks”, which wins the top prize of $5,000. With amazing visuals and impressive gameplay the map set the bar very high for Wave 1, and will be one to watch for Wave 2. With all the great maps submitted in Wave 1, we can’t wait to see what the mapping community creates for the final wave where the grand prize is $10,000. Additionally, the Wave 2 deadline has been moved back to October 2nd, 2009 to give the mappers a little extra time to polish their entries.
Congratulations to all the entrants in Wave 1. It is clear that a lot of effort went into these maps and it is just a shame that we can’t reward everyone. The top 3 maps from Wave 1 are:
- First Place – KF-WaterworksV2 by Damien “DamDam” Laurent which wins the $5,000 prize.
- Second Place – KF-FilthsCross-v5 by Justyn “JustFilth” Toohill – Nvidia GTX 275 (896MB) graphics card plus a Logitech G19 Keyboard and G9X Mouse
- Third Place – KF-CornerMarket_v3 by Clement Menendez – 2 Nvidia GTX 9600 GSO graphics cards
Here is the full list of runners-up, with a special mention for Justyn “JustFilth” Toohill who succeeded in producing 3 of the prize-winning maps!
- KF-Biohazard-XTX by Justyn “JustFilth” Toohill – Logitech G15 Keyboard

by [TW]Wilsonam on Sep.11, 2009, under News
Just to keep all the Killing Floor fans and Grindhouse Map Contest entrants in the loop, we are just into the final stages of judging Wave 1 of the contest. This means that the results will be announced very soon. So we can give the entrants to Wave 2 more time to take in the feedback and make any changes they would like to their maps, we are extending the deadline by 2 weeks. This means that submissions now need to be in by 2nd October.
