Open Beta Program for Killing Floor
by [TW]schneidzekk on Sep.23, 2009, under News
We are offering all KF players and server admins the chance to join an Open Beta Program for future changes to the game.
The first features to be tested include Surround Sound support for Vista and Universal Plug’n'Play Support for Hosting Servers, as well as a new map white-listing system that will allow us to update the white list far quicker than before.
The Beta Program is now available to all. To take part, individual players can chose to opt in to the Beta by changing the Beta Participation option in your Steam Settings. Server admins can opt-in to the Beta by running the hldsupdatetool with the following command line addition: -beta kfwebwhitelist. Please remember that this IS a Beta program and that you will only be able to play with players/on servers that have opted in to the Beta. You can always opt back out of the Beta at any time and restore the original version of KF.

Tripwire Interactive are happy to announce that Killing Floor, the hit co-op zombie shooter, is shipping to retailers across North America. After tearing up the sales charts on Steam® for the past couple of months, the boxed version of the game will be on shelves this week. As a special extra the retail version of the game includes 2 bonus playable characters.
With London and the surrounding countryside overrun by failed biological experiments called specimens, it is up to you and 5 of your friends to clear the area of the infestation. Featuring an expansive arsenal of weapons and a built-in perk system that lets you customize and level-up your character you’ll certainly have the firepower to get the job done. Also included in the box is the recently released free “Heavy Metal” Content Pack – the first of many free content packs planned for the game which includes an all new map and new weapons. And with Wave 1 of the “Grindhouse Custom Map Making Competition” just completed and over 50 maps submitted there is no shortage of awesome community created content to play with. The next phase of the contest ends 2nd October and will generate even more stunning new maps for the community, completely for free!

“Heavy Metal” free content pack coming soon
by [TW]schneidzekk on Jul.21, 2009, under News
We are happy to announce details for the upcoming “Heavy Metal” free content pack – the first of many free updates planned for Killing Floor. This adds an all-new map, new weapons and new functionality and will be available to anyone that owns the game.
The new level, entitled “Foundry”, is set in an old iron works which the Horzine Corporation has converted to support their top secret military projects. Exactly what they have been up to here is a matter for conjecture - but before we can send in investigators, your squad has to get in there and clean out the infestation of specimens.
To assist in your task, there are now two new weapons. The first is an old favorite of armed forces the world over: the AK-47. In our case, it has the folding stock, for ease-of-use in close quarters. This one will fit in as a heavier weapon for the Commando Perk and provide extra stopping power over the base Bullpup. The second is a weapon that just about every special-forces soldier in every movie seems to know intimately, for no good reason other than personal interest: the Japanese Katana sword. Just where the squad got hold of it is a mystery, but this piece of Samurai history is just so fitting, such a thing of beauty and such a perfect melee weapon, that we aren’t going to ask too many questions.
In addition to this free update, Tripwire Interactive will be releasing our first paid DLC character pack for Killing Floor very soon. This character pack adds four new playable characters including a Horzine foundry worker and a soldier in prototype Horzine body armor.
Killing Floor Updated Again
by [TW]schneidzekk on Jul.09, 2009, under News
A non required update for Killing Floor has been released for both Windows and Linux dedicated servers. This update fixes an issue with perks sometimes not being accumulated on whitelisted maps, and sometimes accumulating on non-whitelisted maps. Additionally, the update adds many more custom maps to the whitelist of maps which will allow perk earning. This update is automatically applied for clients.
